T-Mobile Launches Cliq XT

Today T-Mobile USA launches the updated Motorola Cliq XT; adding another solid Android option to their lineup of smartphones. The Cliq XT shares many similarities to its predecessor in terms of design and performance, but has definitely been revamped to help establish an identity all its own.

With this fresh design, users can now expect a 100% full touch screen experience. Clearly distinguishing itself from the standard Motorola Cliq, the Cliq XT has shed its physical slide out QWERTY keypad and added a rather large touchpad at the base of the handset for navigation. A rather notable upgrade Motorola has included is the multi-touch capability which allows you to pinch-and-zoom photos and while web browsing. This a very popular feature pioneered by Apple with the iPhone, and time after time considered a tool for measurement on how a handset may appeal to the masses. However, it is the implementation of Swype to the Cliq XT that will surely satisfy the touch savvy users. Arguably the feature with the most buzz in the industry as of late, Swype suggests a new way of texting simply by performing a swipe through the letters of the word you’re trying to spell. It is definitely a unique approach that is very intuitive and demonstrates evolution with the current trend of full touch screen handsets.

Many Android users will be disappointed to see that the phone will be shipped running Android 1.5, but perhaps the cost of the phone will help offset that a little bit. T-Mobile will be offering the Cliq XT for $99.99 on a 2-year contract agreement and qualifying data plan. Originally expected to launch at $129.99, this is no doubt to be considered a steal for a feature packed Android powered handset. Aside from these changes, consumers can expect to see many of the same powerhouse features such as MOTOBLUR, a 5.0 MP camera, full HTM web browsing, and Wi-Fi capabilities.
