TeleNav Announces Navigator 6.0

Early Monday morning on the eve of CTIA 2010, arguably the world’s largest wireless convention, TeleNav announced the release of their GPS Navigator 6.0 on their website. It has been a patient process as TeleNav was highly focused on addressing the most important concerns of their 14+ million users, but it’s finally here.

With this revision, users can expect an abundance of new features that promise to further enrich their navigation experience. Some include: one-touch voice recognition, lane assist, and speed limit alerts. It is definitely comforting to see a great solution that is able to not only be effective and efficient, but one that maintains the focus on the most important aspect as well; safety. As a user we rely on an application such as the one TeleNav offers to provide familiarity in an unfamiliar surrounding. It also offers the convenience of operating from a single device in your mobile handset. Consequently, there is a great amount of trust placed into the application and TeleNav understands all of it. Perhaps the feature most conscious of this, and my personal favorite, is the ability to receive turn-by-turn directions even in an area without coverage.

With this feature, Navigator 6.0 now has the capability of downloading your entire route along with the surrounding map data straight to your phone. Now getting caught in a dead zone with your provider doesn’t have to produce a negative outcome and your safety is not compromised. Also, because the route is downloaded and saved on your phone, you have the ability to receive reverse directions and route back to your original location.

The service will be available on Wednesday, March 24, 2010. AT&T customers can expect compatibility with both the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and BlackBerry Bold 9000 as TeleNav will initially launch it exclusively as AT&T Navigator (v 2.0). We hope to see further compatibility to other providers and phones some time soon. Until then we will keep our ears to the ground and be sure to update everyone as the information is released.

As mentioned earlier, TeleNav is very conscious and aware of their subscribers’ needs and demands. They listen in any way they can and have many portals to do so; including this one here. Please, share your thoughts!
