Ask any attendee of CTIA 2010 who made the biggest announcement during the event and they’d be hard pressed to choose between Samsung and Sprint’s presence during the show. Both made some huge announcements and showed off industry standard setting devices. The entire show seemed to focus on mobile broadband and Sprint did well in announcing their HTC EVO 4G, but Samsung very much held their own unveiling its latest smartphone device; the Galaxy S.
During Samsung’s exclusive Unpacked event the Life On My Mobile team got to experience the incredible features of the Galaxy S and received a very practical and real-life demonstration on how the device can truly simplify your daily ventures. It was impressive to say the least.

The full touch screen Galaxy S is powered Samsung’s very own1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor and will be running smooth on none other than the industry’s fastest growing OS; Android 2.1. Other features include: 5.0 MP camera (no flash; hopefully this changes at launch), a front facing camera, GPS, up to 16GB internal memory (external slot up to 32GB), HD video support for both playing and recording, and much more. In addition to this, you can expect to see full integration of your personal life with your social networking agenda. A feature known as “All Share” will be introduced which will provide sync options for services such as Twitter and Facebook to align directly with your phones existing contacts. Combine an impressive hardware sheet with user friendly features such as these and Swype texting and you’ve got a legitimate powerhouse on your hands. All of which bring you one step closer to living the simple life; or as Samsung would have it, simply “S Life”.

You may have noticed that I left one little detail out; THE SCREEN! I’ve always been a fan of saving the best for last. Cliché? Yeah, maybe a little, but if you had the chance to hold this thing you’d understand where I’m coming from. I’m not sure that I can even begin to describe it enough where you can actually appreciate its beauty. Still reading? Ok, Ok…
I have no doubt in my mind when I say that the Galaxy S will be sporting an unrivaled, industry leading, 4” SUPER AMOLED display. Yes, SUPER! There was simply no other way to describe it. The colors were amazing, crisp, sharp, and simply immerse you into the experience when handling it. I’m a huge home theater guy and have seen nearly everything from projectors front and rear, plasma, LCD, and LED; none of which produced the vibrant images I saw with the Galaxy S. It is expected to produce a display that is 20% brighter while being much less reflective, all while contributing to better battery life. Additionally, at the Unpacked event, it’s said that the display pushes 90M triangles per second (a unit of measure for graphics performance). That’s more than three times that of the iPhone! Make no mistake, everyone at CTIA knew about this phone and Samsung made sure of it. Of all the people and connections we made; the screen on the Galaxy S was the first thing mentioned when asked about it.

Samsung kept a tight lid on which carrier would be launching this smartphone, what the price range would be, and when exactly it would launch. For now, all we can tell you is that we can expect it this summer. Perhaps close to HTC’s EVO 4G with Sprint? My vote goes to T-Mobile as they continue to push for their HSPA+ network. It would be fun to see how these two powerhouse carriers and manufacturers fare against each other. What do you guys think? Share your thoughts!

It is going to be a tough decision between this device and the HTC EVO.
I saw this thing first hand – the screen is RIDICULOUS and I really didn’t have any problems with glare. Very impressive.
Unless BlackBerry announces something incredible soon; they’re gonna lose me to Android with this phone.
