Apple Releases iOS 6.1
Apple released iOS 6.1 early this morning this update is to add a few new features as well as some bug fixes. iOS 6.1 adds LTE support for more carriers, gives Siri the ability to use Fandango to order movie tickets, allows iTunes match users to download songs individually from iCloud, and adds a new button to reset the Advertising Identifier.
iOS 6.1 adds 36 iPhone carries and 23 iPad carriers to the list of LTE network providers. LTE is currently available on iPhone 5 and cellular versions of the iPad mini and fourth generation iPad. LTE will also now be available in Italy, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, and the Philippines as well as several Middle Eastern countries. A full list of available carriers will be on Apple’s website.
If you are an iTunes Match user this update will allow you to download individual songs from iCloud. In addition if you own an iOS device with Siri the voice assistant has learned a new trick. Siri will now have the ability to purchase Fandango movie tickets for you without you ever having to look at your phone, however this feature is only available in the U.S.
Apple has also included a new button that allows you to control how your iOS device’s web activity is shared with advertisers. The Reset Advertising Identifier button can be found in your iOS devices Settings>General>About>Advertising.
The 6.1 update is available to all compatible iOS devices to see if your device is eligible for the update go to your iOS devices Settings> General>Software Update. The update is about 1 GB and will take about 30 minutes to download over Wi-Fi, your Apple ID and password will be required when the iOS device reboots in order to sign in for FaceTime, App Store, iTunes, and Game Center. The update can also be downloaded and installed using your computer and iTunes.
