If you haven’t heard of STM before, hopefully this article will help you get acquainted with them and an excellent piece from their new Annex collection. STM was founded in 1998 in Sydney, Australia. They make a variety of bags, packs, phone and tablet cases. Their mission: to provide you with stylish options for carrying and protecting your valuable items, all with unparalleled quality and attention to detail. They also stand by their products, replacing or repairing without charge for any defect that may occur as long as it is not the result of accidental damage, misuse, improper care, animal attack, or natural breakdown of the materials due to extended use. So make sure you are not the victim of a bear attack while wearing your STM.
After checking out STM, I immediately fell in love with the Drifter from their Annex collection. I had to test this bag out to see if it lived up to what looked like to be an unbelievable product. STM sent a graphite colored Drifter for me to check out for this review. The backpack exterior is made of a water resistant 320D brushed poly fabric with 640D reinforced bottom fabric. The inside is a super soft polyester with brushed Nylex. It has an overall capacity of 1094.4 cu in and weighs 2.29 lbs empty.
This backpack is quality inside and out. The zipper teeth are thick and the aluminum sliders are a large size. They open and close smoothly thanks to the YKK self repairing zippers. The shoulder straps are padded and contoured for comfort and there is a sternum strap for extra support. There are three zippered front panel pockets. The top pocket is soft lined to protect your sunglasses, phone , or other sensitive items. The middle pocket is perfect for your keys, wallet, passport, etc. The bottom pocket has the slots for pens and business cards. The main top flips open to reveal a deep main compartment. There is a padded laptop sleeve built in that fits most 13 to 16 inch laptops. There is also a slip pocket that fits a tablet. The top flap has a see through zipper pocket on its underside. The main compartment has plenty of capacity to carry your personals for your daily travels. At the very bottom of the bag is a small zippered compartment that holds a detachable rain cover, just in case you get caught in that sudden rain storm. Of course STM included side water bottle pockets with compression straps, a quick grab loop, and a luggage handle pass through for travelers.
I had the opportunity to use this backpack on an extended trip and I must say that I am convinced this is the best backpack that I have thrown over my shoulder. The quality is truly second to none. I love the shape of this backpack and found each and every compartment useful. The extra padding in the straps and mesh back panel really help out when it is loaded. I now carry this backpack with me everywhere, trusting it with my everyday needs. And I get plenty of compliments on its looks.
STM offers a variety of different sizes and shapes in their Annex collection, as well as in their Velocity, and Canvas collections. Check out more of what STM has to offer at www.stmbags.com.
The Drifter retails for $139.95 and is available is Graphite, Red, and Olive. While that is quite a few shekels more than the run of the mill backpack, this is not a run of the mill backpack. My time spent with the Drifter has convinced me that should you pony up the asking price, you will not be disappointed.
