Samsung Unveils Galaxy Note 8.0 An 8 inch Phablet, Just Because

Galaxy Note 8.0

Samsung has introduced the newest member to the Galaxy line-up, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. The Galaxy Note 8.0 is an 8-inch tablet that can be used as a phone as well. Yes an 8″ phone. Imagine making a call on your iPad Mini of Kindle Fire HD.

The Galaxy Note 8.0 looks like a pretty good device. It offers all the same functionally as the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II, but with a new age of S Pen intelligence. Not to mention, it’s 8 inches. We are pretty sure this 8″ size, ability to be used as a phone and has a better screen than the iPad Mini was nothing more then marketing. Everyone wants to claim the best and brightest display and it appears for now, size does matter.

The Note 8.0 will also have a 5 megapixel rear camera and 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera.

HP Announces The Slate 7

HP Slate 7

HP has introduced the HP Slate 7. When the company launched their first tablet back in 2011, the TouchPad was running WebOS. The TouchPad ended up just taking up warehouse space and faded away over seven weeks.

The HP Slate 7 will be the company’s second attempt to break into the tablet market. Is Android the saving grace for HP? We won’t know for a while, but the tablet market is already crowed with Android devices.

HP is hoping Beats Audio will help sell this device. Users will get good sound quality and a rich audio experience with the tablet. HP is also touting their ePrint app that lets you easily print while at home or on the go. Also there is also a native print capability that enables you to print directly from within most applications.

The Slate 7 specifications:

7-inch LCD display

1.6 GHz ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 processor

Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)

1 GB of RAM

3-megapixel rear-facing camera

VGA front-facing camera

8 GB of internal storage

The HP Slate 7 will cost $169 and is expected to arrive in the U.S. come April. That is a great price point to help HP get some solid tablet sales under their belt.

Canonical Announces Ubuntu OS For Tablets

Ubuntu Tablet

The Ubuntu countdown had nothing to do with HTC but at least sparked some good speculation. Canonical has announced that a tablet OS is also on the way. Most likely to hit in early 2014. Developers will have the chance to start playing with the tablet version of Ubuntu on either the Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 starting this Thursday, February 21st when they also open up the developer preview of their smartphone OS.

Below is a video of Mark Shuttleworth of Canonical who goes into great detail of what Ubuntu will have to offer.

Ubuntu Tablet To Possibly Make A Debut At HTC Event Tomorrow

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is a company that is gearing up to release their very own smartphone OS come October. They’re even set for a developer preview of the OS in three days. The only piece of the puzzle that was missing was a tablet. According to Ubuntu’s homepage, they also have a tablet in store for us tomorrow.

If you head to Ubuntu’s web page you will see: Tick, tock, tablet time! with a timer counting down from hours until their announcement tomorrow.

Now, also tomorrow is HTC’s event with CEO, Peter Chou in New York City. I don’t know about you, but both companies with the same countdown heading into tomorrow raises a flag. We know Ubuntu is currently able to run on the Galaxy Nexus 4, but no device manufactures for the OS were given.

HTC Instagram

HTC has also posted on their Instagram account, a picture of what appears to be smartphones and tablets covered. Could one of those be an HTC tablet running Ubuntu? Does this mean HTC could be the first official company to run Ubuntu?

Check back tomorrow morning, starting at 10AM EST to find out.

Apple Airs Two New iPad Ads

Apple Ad

Apple has two new iPad ads for both the iPad and iPad Mini. The ads are named “Together” and “Alive”. In both ads there is music playing in the background with a series of words flashing and different apps explaining the words.

The ads are little different from other Apple ads, but like Tim Cook said, “We wouldn’t do anything we consider a great product” and with Apple’s new ads they let the product do the talking. We are just happy they haven’t brought back those “Genius” ads.

Take A Look At The Microsoft Surface Pro From The Inside

Surface Pro 2

The Microsoft Surface Pro has only been available for a few days and the team over at iFixit has already taken the $900 tablet / laptop apart. There were over 90 screws that were removed, which lead iFixit to rate the repairing a 1 (most difficult) out of 10 (easy). Even upgrading the SSD card would cause you problems, as there are a number of cables to deal with.

So, handle your Surface Pro with care! You can take a look at some images of the device completely gutted.

iPad Mini Delivered Prior To Launch

We know Apple is usually good at keeping to a tight delivery schedule with their shipping partners for new product launches. My iPhone 5 sat in a U.S. warehouse for nearly a week before it was dispatched for arrival on launch day even though I checked everyday hoping it would be delivered early.

As usual, someone got lucky and received there iPad Mini ahead of the launch. The French customer had pre-ordered from retailer Darty and received it today.

Here is the required unboxing pictures. The first thing you will notice is it is smaller and looks like an iPad. Other than that, it is just an iPad.

Best Buy To Launch Insignia Branded Android Tablet

Best Buy is rumored to launch their own Android tablet named “Insignia Flex”. According to Reuters, Best Buy is looking to compete with Apple’s iPad and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD.

Some of the rumored features of the “Insignia Flex” are a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 9.7-inch display with ten-hours of battery life.

The tablet is said to arrive in Best Buy stores on November 11th with a price between $239 and $259. This price range is slightly above the Kindle Fire HD and well below Apple’s iPad 3.

I am not sure how a Best Buy branded tablet will do. I just don’t see them being able to provide the required support or updates needed.
