Huawei And LG Firefox Handsets Spotted At MWC

Alcatel and ZTE have already announced their Firefox OS handsets and we know LG and Huawei are two of the other manufactures that are also working with Mozilla. While they haven’t made any official announcements images of the devices have surfaced.

CNET was able to get some images of what appears to be both Huawei and LG’s handsets on Firefox OS. Now it’s not official if those are the devices, but the tip is that the handsets are in a case full of Firefox phones.

Mozilla’s Firefox OS Is On The Way, Devices By ZTE, LG, Alcatel And Huawei

Mozilla has officially announced that their Firefox OS for mobile devices will be operating in 18 world markets and be the first Open Web Devices.

When Firefox OS takes off the first markets to get their hands on the Firefox OS devices will be Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Venezuela. This is just the first wave of markets to roll out; additional markets will be announced at a later date.

Mozilla is working with manufacturers who have already been busy at MWC (Mobile World Congress) like Alcatel, Huawei, LG and ZTE. All of the first Firefox OS devices will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.

We already know of two handsets that have been announced to run Firefox OS. These include the ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire. Both devices are similar in specifications, but look completely different in appearance.

Specifications for both devices:

ZTE Open

  • 3.5 inch display
  • Cortex A5 based Qualcomm processor
  • 600 MHz
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 512 MB of internal storage
  • 3.2 megapixel camera

Alcatel OneTouch Fire

  • 3.5 inch display
  • 1 GHz processor
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 512 MB of internal storage
  • 3.2 megapixel camera

Handsets for the U.S. running Firefox OS are expected to arrive in 2014. No prices on the handset announced have been given, but check back in for more details as we find out.

Mozilla "Boot to Gecko" to Piggyback on Android

 

 

A few months ago there was some news about Mozilla deciding to enter the mobile OS field. The first new news to come out since then is that what is known as “Boot to Gecko” will be cloud-based

Firefox 7 Available In The Android Market

If you’re an Android user be sure to checkout the updated Mozilla Firefox in the Android Market. Version 7 is now available, and while there isn’t a lot of enhancements, I’m sure users will enjoy the improved copy and paste.

Firefox In Nightly Build For Android Tablets

Mozilla has been in the workshop putting together a tablet version of Firefox for Android. Although it’s not the official version there is one available that just been released into Nightly Builds, A.K.A. Beta.

Keep in mind if you decide to give this Firefox version a go that it’s just in testing and there will be bugs, possible crashes. Mozilla asks that you notify their team with any issues you come across in order for them to fix outstanding issues.

Firefox Version 4 Available For Android

Mozilla’s Firefox 4 is now out of beta and available for Android users with some neat features like Firefox Sync which allows for you to securely access your Firefox history, bookmarks, tabs and passwords across all your devices. Mozilla even added features like streamlined interface, browse more (type less), private and secure synchronization and cutting edge tools for web developers. Read more
