T-Mobile To Start Switching On LTE

T-Mobile is gearing up to flip the switch on their LTE network. Today they began pushing out software updates for Android version 4.1.2/ Software T889UVBMB4 for the Samsung Galaxy Note II. The new update introduces LTE support along with other improvements for the device.

Joining the Galaxy Note II on T-Mobile’s 4G / LTE will be the BlackBerry Z10. In testing the LTE network Laptop Magazine is showing download speeds of 58.8 Mbps and uploads at 25.5 Mbps. Keep in mind those numbers are from a tower not under any type of load so probably wont be real world numbers when LTE goes live.

LTE will go live first in Las Vegas, NV and Kansas City. The plan is to cover 100 million people by mid 2013 and 200 million by years end.

BlackBerry Z10 Available In the U.S. From 1SaleADay

I woke up this morning to do my daily browsing of discount sites and was more than a little shocked to see the BlackBerry Z10 listed for $629.99. I am not sure why BlackBerry would make a move like this. I can’t imagine their U.S. carrier partners being happy about the device being made available without contract prior to release.

If you are inclined to order one just keep in mind my experience with the site is about a two week turn around between ordering and delivery. The item is listed as new and will work on any U.S. GSM carrier such as T-Mobile and AT&T.

BlackBerry Z10 To Hit T-Mobile March 27 and Verizon March 28

After just posting what looks like the launch date for the iPhone on T-Mobile we also received word that the BlackBerry Z10 will be available in T-Mobile stores starting March 27. This would keep with T-Mobile wanting to be the first carrier to offer the device.

We are also told that Verizon will launch it the following day, March 28. This all fits perfectly into the block out dates for time off from March 24 through April 5 imposed by T-Mobile on their employees.

This comes along with information about a block out of personal time off between March 24 and April 5. While this is rumor our source is well placed in T-Mobile and has proven accurate in the past.

T-Mobile Launching GoSmart Mobile

T-Mobile is launching GoSmart Mobile pre-paid nationwide service starting sometime in February, according to Fierce Wireless. This news comes from people familiar with the matter. T-Mobile ran test of the new plan in select markets last month and the demand for GoSmart was strong enough to warrant a full rollout.

GoSmart Mobile will be available in three different plans starting at $30 per month for unlimited voice and texting, $35 per month for unlimited voice, texting and 2G web service and $45 for unlimited voice, texting and 5 GB (3G high-speed) web service.GoSmart Mobile Image

T-Mobile right now is offering the Alcatel OT 838 for $49 and a “T-Mobile SIM kit” for $8 that allows customers to use unlocked GSM devices. We will have more details when T-Mobile makes everything official. With T-Mobiles re-farming of their network this could be a great place to take your unlocked iPhone.

T-Mobile Begins Selling the Nexus 4 Again

The Nexus 4 was first released by T-Mobile last year and the device became so popular that T-Mobile’s stock quickly ran out and the stock hadn’t been replenished until now. If you are in the market for the Nexus 4 on T-Mobile you better act fast before this batch of devices is gone too.

As with all providers T-Mobile is selling the Nexus 4 for $199 with a new two-year contract or if you don’t have an upgrade or would rather not extend your contract you can by the device out right for $599. Consumer Reports Rates Verizon As Best And AT&T As Worst, Again

Once again Verizon was the highest ranked mobile carrier in the U.S. but overall their satisfaction rating has dropped. The Consumer Reports survey was based off of voice / data service quality, staff knowledge and issue resolution. These results are based on polls from 63,250 subscribers.

The carriers all maintained their positions from last year with Sprint pulling in second place followed by T-Mobile and then AT&T. AT&T has a reputation of coming in dead last in this annual survey and we don’t see them instituting any changes to improve the scores anytime soon.

While AT&T did leave this satisfaction survey with a black eye, the respondents did give AT&T the highest score for their LTE network surpassing all of Verizon’s claims of biggest and best.

T-Mobile Enhances 4G Coverage In 10 New Metro Areas

T-Mobile has been working hard to strengthen their 4G experience in some of the major metro areas throughout the US, today the company has announced that they have enhanced coverage in 10 new metro areas. These upgrades allow unlocked iPhones to take full advantage of 4G network speeds and is another step in T-Mobile bringing the iPhone to market in 2013.

The 10 additional areas include:

  • Miami, Florida
  • Phoenix, Arizona
  • San Francisco, California
  • Mesa, Arizona
  • Tucson, Arizona
  • Modesto, California
  • Oakland, California
  • San Jose, California,
  • Stockton, California
  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida

With the addition of the 10 new cities, this brings a total of 15 metro areas live. The other five areas are Baltimore, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Washington D.C. T-Mobile is expecting to launch multiple additional major metro areas by the end of the year.

The HTC One S has a 4.3 inch qHD display, 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera.

T-Mobile And AT&T Carry Each Others Calls To Assist Customers

T-Mobile and AT&T have put aside any differences they may have and are teaming up in the wake of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. They are taking extraordinary measures to make sure their customers are able to stay in touch with work, family and friends.

Both companies have entered into an agreement to enable roaming on their networks to customers of both companies in the heavily impacted areas cellular service has been dramatically impacted.

While 911 calls will always be carried by the first available carrier your device finds completing other calls require access to the competitors network.

What this means to you:

Customers will be able to place calls just as they normally would, but their calls will be carried by whichever network is most operational in their area.

This will be seamless for AT&T and T-Mobile customers and you will not incur any additional charges for making a call while roaming on the other carriers network.

T-Mobile and AT&T both utilize network technology based on GSM and UMTS standards, which allows for this easy sharing of voice and data traffic.

T-Mobile Changes Minimum Data Requirement

As of October 10th, T-Mobile has stopped offering 200 MB plans to their smartphone customers. The 200 MB plan was the lowest data required for a T-Mobile smartphone purchase, but now the minimum moves to 2GB. If you currently have the 200 MB plan on your T-Mobile smartphone your plan will remain the same and you will not be forced to move to the new 2GB minimum.

For most users the 200 MB plan seemed pointless anyway seeing as most of us use at least 1-2 GB of data on a monthly basis. With T-Mobile now offering unlimited data for $20 a month we really can’t complain about the loss of the 200MB option.
