Verizon Purging Employer Discount Abusers

verizon_doscount

Those customers on Verizon Wireless who have been sucking discounts from their former employee discount on their personal account will soon be contacted by Verizon to verify employment. Verizon is cracking down on customers that don’t qualify for Verizon’s discount. Verizon is so serious about the issue that their employees are going to start training on this audit starting March 18th.

Verizon offers certain employers discounts of up to 25% off on its mobile phone service and up to 25% off of accessories.

Starting the first of April, customers who receive an employee discount will be contacted by Verizon via email, SMS message or good old fashion letter asking them to prove their employment with the company that is listed on their account. If you have changed jobs and your new employer qualifies for a Verizon discount you can update your account.

Upon being contacted, you will have 60 days to verify the information on your account before Verizon automatically takes away your discount. You will have three ways to verify your employment. You can head to Verizon’s renewal website and confirm via your business email address, call Verizon customer service and speak to a rep to verify your information or you can send an email with proof to Verizon.

Let us know if you get a verification request.

Verizon Preparing Voice Over LTE And Debating The Subsidy System

Verizon Store

Verizon Wireless is looking to launch Voice Over LTE by the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014. With Voice Over LTE this will allow for Verizon to route all voice calls and text messages over the company’s 4G / LTE network. Right now voice calls and text messages are currently going through the company’s 3G CDMA network.

During the Deutsche Bank 2013 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo stated, “As Verizon moves to Voice Over LTE technology late this year and early next year, the company will begin to launch devices without CDMA chipsets in them, which also should reduce subsidy cost.”

Verizon believes that subsidies for smartphones and other devices will fall over the next couple or few years as competition increases between the different operating systems and devices that will be made to only run on LTE.

Shammo also said, “That subsidy cost are a big part of Verizon’s expenses, but only one part, and he said that the subsidy model has prevailed in the U.S. market for the last 12 years.”

Carriers are looking at eliminating subsidies to increase their bottom line. T-Mobile has already done this by selling a device for $99 then charging you $20 a month on your bill for 20 months to pay it off. One of the reason plans on MetroPCS and Virgin Mobile are so inexpensive is because they are not trying to recover the device subsidy.

BlackBerry Z10 To Hit T-Mobile March 27 and Verizon March 28

Blackberry-Z10

After just posting what looks like the launch date for the iPhone on T-Mobile we also received word that the BlackBerry Z10 will be available in T-Mobile stores starting March 27. This would keep with T-Mobile wanting to be the first carrier to offer the device.

We are also told that Verizon will launch it the following day, March 28. This all fits perfectly into the block out dates for time off from March 24 through April 5 imposed by T-Mobile on their employees.

Verizon Sold 9.8 Million Smartphones In 4th Quarter

iPhone Verizon

Verizon activated 9.8 million smartphones in the fourth quarter period with 30 percent of those activations new to the carrier. Out of the 9.8 million activations Apple’s iPhone stood out on top with 6.2 million devices activated, according to Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo.

Shammo also shared that the other 3.6 million smartphones that were active where powered by Google’s Android OS. All, but 5% of Android devices that were activated were able to connect to Verizon’s 4G/ LTE network.

As far as Apple’s iPhone, half of the smartphones were able to tap into the 4G/ LTE network, which means the other half of the iPhones were either the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S.
